Book Review: The New Sonoma Diet

  • Sharebar

Just a few weeks ago, I was saying how glad I am for the return of spring and fresh fruits and vegetables being in season. What a perfect time of year to read The New Sonoma Diet: Trimmer Waist, More Energy in Just 10 Days
by Dr. Connie Guttersen. I remember when the original Sonoma Diet came out, but I never really paid attention to it. At that point in my life, I didn’t need to be concerned with my weight. Unfortunately, now that has changed!

I like that the New Sonoma Diet is not a 1 or 2 weeks diet that you do and then gain all your weight back when you get to eat the “good stuff” again. On the Sonoma Diet, you eat the “good” stuff. The focus is on enjoying your meals and the people you eat them with; about enjoying life. I personally don’t drink wine, but wine is even included for those of you who do.

The “diet” is not the traditional one in which you have a list of foods that you CAN’T eat. Instead, the New Sonoma Diet focuses on the foods that you CAN eat. There are 3 “waves” with Wave 3 being your maintenance wave once you’ve reached your target weight.

The book really does a good job explaining the reasoning behind the recommended lifestyle changes, and they make perfect sense. There are also 12 Power Foods and a whole section in the book on how each one of these 12 foods are benificial to your body. At the back you will find a section with recipes suitable for each of the 3 waves. If you choose, you can even follow a specific meal plan.

I love to eat, so I love the fact that this diet enourages you to eat and steers you toward healthy, whole foods without cutting any one particular thing out completely. For all of you who have a constant stuggle with your weight and eating habits, this is definitely a interesting and helpful book!

**I received a copy of The New Sonoma Diet, but was not monetarily compensated for my time. All opinions are 100% my own.

I am a huge enthusiast of The Sonoma Diet. I have been for approx.6yrs. now. I tweet all day re: how successful and sensible this diet is, not to mention so easy to follow. I hate using “diet” as a description. I prefer The term “Sonoma for Life”. At the end of every meal I am in so satisfied and inspired to continue this way of life. I am not sure why the rest of the world has not caught on to this secret to great living. I hope to change that one day.

I love to eat, too. And I also love wine, so this sounds perfect. I will be sure to go to Barnes & Noble across the street and check it out. If only I could follow one said routine. I seem to start off strong with such diets and end on a lousy note. Sometimes I think if I lived some place that was summer year round, like southern California, it would be a major incentive to stay in shape!
